Scientists from Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), Morocco visits Soil Research Institute

The Director of CSIR-SRI, Dr. Mohammed Moro Buri and selected Senior Members and Technologist met with a 3-man team of soil scientists from Mohammed VI Polytechnic University (UM6P), Morocco for a comprehensive discussion on the possibility of collaboration between the two institutions for the advancement of Science and Technology for development. The Team from Morocco included:

  1. Prof. Leonarous Verϋtz
  2. Prof. Khalil El Mejahed
  3. Prof. Fassil Kebede

Discussion

The Director welcomed the team from Morocco to the CSIR-SRI and wished them a successful visit and a fruitful discussion. He then made a presentation on the mission, mandate, vision, objective, research programmes and activities of the institute. This was followed by a session of discussion on the content of the Director’s presentation.

The visiting team also made presentations on the main purpose of the visit and also took time to indicate their research interests and focus for consideration for possible collaboration. The presentations were made by Prof. Fassil Kebede and Prof. Khalil El Mejahed. This was also followed by a discussion on the areas of interest identified.

Areas of Interest

At the end of the discussion, the house agreed to continue to forge for the establishment of a formal relationship between the CSIR-SRI and the UM6P for collaboration. The house agreed to explore collaboration in the following areas for the start:

  1. Web-based fertilizer recommendation development for crops production in Ghana
  2. Support the setting up of library (database) of analytical results for SRI Laboratory activities
  3. Explore students and faculty exchange opportunities between UM6P and CCST of SRI

Tour of SRI Facilities

The Moroccan team undertook a tour round some facilities at the SRI including:

  1. Exhibition hall
  2. GIS and soil mapping workstation
  3. SRI Laboratories
  4. Experimental fields for vegetables and rice research.
