Soil Research Scientists Urged to Publish more Scientific Papers

April 19, 2021

A call has gone out to Soil Research Scientists to publish more scientific papers in high impact journals. The Management Board Chairman of CSIR-Soil Research Institute (SRI), Dr. Andre Bationo, made the plea while addressing the Scientists at the In-House Review and Planning Session held at the institute’s conference room at Kwadaso in Kumasi on Friday 16th April, 2021.

Dr. Bationo emphasized that it is the publication of quality scientific papers that will propel scientists to a higher height of their career. He noted that most projects are donor driven and the only way to secure funds is by writing quality proposals. Dr. Bationo therefore advised the scientists to look for more projects to help the institute. He also pointed out that, all the research being done should be useful to the smallholder farmers.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Edward Yeboah, Director of CSIR-Soil Research Institute mentioned that the In-House Review is an important programme that should be observed by all CSIR institutes annually. He stated that it provides opportunity to look back at the works done and what has been achieved in the previous year and plan for the current year. He emphasized that it is out of the programme that the Institute develops its annual reports which are circulated to stakeholders.

Dr. Yeboah added that it is a forum where research ideas and results are shared for young scientists to know what is being done at the institute. He pointed out that the Institute has come out with a new strategic plan with the vision to position the Institute as a center of excellence in research and innovation in tropical soil resources management. He stressed on the need to position SRI as a top tier institute within corporate CSIR and have high scientific publications.
