The CSIR-Soil Research Institute (SRI) at Kwadaso-Kumasi welcomed 4 Research Scientists from the Hungarian University of Agriculture and Life Science (MATE) as part of an Erasmus + Mobility Exchange program on Friday, February 24, 2023.
The goal of the Hungarian team is to discuss and strengthen current ongoing collaborations (Erasmus + program, H2020 Soils for Africa Project, and European Joint Project-EJP Soil) and explore opportunities for future capacity-building programs such as Joint Ph.D. degrees. Mr. Anthony Abutiate, Chief Technical Officer at SRI Laboratory Analytical Services, greeted 
and welcomed Dr. Simon Barbara, Dr. Greczi Gabor, Miss Keleti Judit Rita, and Dr.Caleb Melenya Ocansey (Team Leader) to learn about the various physical and chemical parameters tested in Soil and Water in the Agriculture industry, as well as the precautions to be taken when collecting soil
samples. The researchers paid close attention to the demonstration of testing various soil parameters.
A trip to the Soils4Africa project in new Bomfa, Effiduase near Kumasi in search of African Dark Earth, where human interaction with soils near settlements and farmlands builds up soil organic matter at a depth of about 100cm.
According to MATE team leader Dr.Caleb Melenya Ocansey, the African dark earth concept will help them look at the soil carbon persistence of these unique soils.
