The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research’s Soil Research Institute (CSIR-SRI) has the manpower and facilities to contribute to the training of the requisite critical mass of Soil Scientists at the Graduate level. This is in consonance with the mission of the Institution which is to develop knowledge and technologies for the sustainable management of Ghana’s soil resources for agriculture, industry and environmental sustenance. This informed the development of this M.Phil. curriculum for training in Soil Science.

Programme Aim

The aim of the programme is to train Soil Scientists with the requisite competence for continuous development of knowledge and technologies for sustainable management of tropical soils and the environment for climate-smart agriculture and enhanced livelihoods of smallholder households in the West African sub-region.

Admission requirements

Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources and Other Science Courses with at least a Second Class degree from a recognized university. A third class graduate with proven extensive practical and academic records could be considered.

Proof of competence in English Language

For students of other nations whose primary language for education is not English, TOEFL score of 550 or its equivalent and also other English Language Proficiency Attestation from a recognized Institutions is required as a proof of competence

Eligibility

The M.Phil programme will offer a two-year training programme to candidates who hold a good Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Degree with at least Second Class in Agriculture, Environmental Sciences and Natural Resources from a recognized University.
